So it uses redboot which can boot larger kernels, which means it only
breaks one possible boot method.

There is only one boot method for nslu2 that I know of, and it
has this kernel size limit.

This is a serious bug because it makes d-i FTBFS (unless we remove
nslu2 support from it.)

Bug#376926: new kernel is too large for nslu2

Joey Hess
In reply to this post by Bastian Blank
I tried with 2.6.17 and it's ok; the size reductions made in this version bring
it back down to being small enough (although it's close; see below). I hope a
new version of the 2.6.16 kernel can be released with those same changes (I
understand that one was turning off selinux support for nslu2).

Read 0x00040000 bytes from "/tmp/file77cF61" into <RedBoot> (2 blocks / 2 blocks)
Read 0x00020000 bytes from "/tmp/fileGzX1K1" into <SysConf> (1 blocks / 1 blocks)
Read 0x000FB2D8 bytes from "./dest/nslu2/netboot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-1-nslu2" into <Kernel> (8 blocks / 8 blocks)
Read 0x0035E834 bytes from "./dest/nslu2/netboot/initrd.gz" into <Ramdisk> (27 blocks / 53 blocks)
Read 0x00000010 bytes from "/tmp/filejbkix7" into <Trailer> (0x00010 bytes / 0x00010 bytes)

See http://ecos.sourceware.org/docs-latest/redboot/download-command.html

No, it can't.

I've no idea what "no, it can't" mean, but I've already made this
change for 2.6.16 in SVN several days ago.  However, I don't expect
there'll be another upload in time for beta3.  Frans suggested I
should disable nslu2 for now in d-i, which I can of course do.  But
I'll probably do a fake binary NMU of linux-2.6.16 with the SELinux
change before beta3.  It's not nice but should be okay since that's
not the final kernel for the release anyway.
