Bug#423848: enable composite feature of metacity

Difei Zhao
Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.18.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Greetings,

I found that the default metacity does not have the composite
feature enabled, is it OK to enable it by default, so the users
can archive translucent using the built-in composite feature
rather than to use things like xcompmgr. Thanks!

Cheers,
Difei

Hi,

This has been requested before, see bug 395124 (I will merge your report
with this one).

Have you tried metacity with the composite function? I'm curious if it's
at all useful. I don't think there has been much work done on it?

It's not useful, it WILL turn your screen blue sooner or later like it
did to me and other guys' computers, and plus libcm is dead upstream
( or at least was ), I don't even know if the "real" support is planned
for 2.20.

Ciao

Hi,

It's very limited and is not comparable with compiz or so.

Hi,

Sorry for the duplicate.
I haven't tested it by myself, but I heard that if the feature is enabled you
can set the gnome-terminal translucent from the menu (Edit -> Current Profile,
same as beryl). Since I am only interested in this composite feature, so I think
it could be useful for those people who likes translucent for the
terminal window
but not the other effects. thanks alot!

Cheers,
Difei
