Bug#564072: mc: Broken German localisation in menus

Andreas Tille
Package: mc
Version: 3:4.7.0-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

the new version mc has a partly broken German localisation in menus.
When pressing F9 the top row menu is in English and the keys I used to
navigate do not work any more.  In the submenus only *a few* items are
translated which makes using your usual keys very hard because you can
not use either German or English shortcuts.

For instance "Left", "File", "Options" and "Right" submenus are
translated but "Command" is only partial ("User menu",
"Verzeichnisbaum", "Find file", "Swap panels", "Switch panels on/off",
"Compare directories", ... "Suffixdaten bEarbeiten", "Menüdatei
bearbeiten", "Edit highlighting group file").

Kind regards and thanks for maintaining mc

        Andreas.

We have incomplete German translation and no one wants to improve it:

German (de)
77% (797/157/78)

Unless you can contribute there's nothing we can do.

For sure I can contribute - just give me a link to the relevant PO file
or whatever has to be done.  But on the other hand: The strings I was
refering to were translated for _ages_.  I'm using MC since 1996 and I
would bet the menu was translated even then.  So I adapted to the German
key shortcuts which is the basic problem (I can perfectly read the
English text for sure).

Kind regards

       Andreas.

The relevant PO-file is in upstream's git:

http://www.midnight-commander.org/browser/po/de.po

The result would better go here:

http://www.midnight-commander.org/ticket/1370

So that they can commit this directly in the master tree.

That's true, but the menu has been completely rearranged lately and is
now generated dynamically. I think that fuzzy translations might be the
reason why gettext does not want to use old translations or something
like this.

I really see a lot of "#, fuzzy" lines which just seem to need deletion.
Patrick, I see your name as last translator and I know you are involved
in MidnightCommander development / packaging.  Are you going to polish
the PO file soon or should I spend some time on it.  I just want to
coordinate and prevent unneeded doubling of work.

Thanks for the hints

       Andreas.

I'm currently work on my bachelor thesis, so I would prefer if you've time
that you could do something :)

Greetings

I registered to their trac system but I have no clue at all how to upload
a file to this system. :-(
So I'm attaching my updated German translation to this mail and add a link
into their tracker.  Hopefully they will find it useful ...

Kind regards

        Andreas.
