Bug#787569: ufraw: Errors converting Nikkon NEF files

Ian McKeag
Package: ufraw
Version: 0.20-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Dark (black) areas in Nikkon NEF raw images result in peak red or blue
artefacts in the converted image.

First noticed following upgrade to jessie.

Not visible in raw images with no black areas.

Variation of conversion parameters, exposure etc. ineffective.
eliminating artefacts.

Can you attach a file that shows these issues?

Thanks

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the file.  Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce it on my
system.  Can you create an ID file with the parameters you're using?  In
the "Save" tab, select "Also" for "Create ID file", and then send me the
dsc_1187.ufraw file.

Also, do you see the artefacts in the preview, or just in the saved
file?  If it's just in the saved file, do you see the artefacts if you
save it as a PPM or PNG?

With the ID file that you sent, I can see the artefacts in the preview.
I'll do a comparison of the options and see if I can narrow down what's
causing the issue.

It looks like the LensFun parameters are to blame.  If you go to the
"Lens correction" tab, go to the "Lateral chromatic aberration" sub-tab,
and switch the model from "3rd order polynomial" to "None", and go to
the "Optical vignetting", and switch the model from "6th order
polynomial" to "None", the artefacts should disappear.

Can you verify that this removes the artefacts?

If you this fixes it for you, I'd like to forward the image and
parameters to the upstream developer to see if he can determine whether
it's a bug in LensFun, or a bug in how ufraw interfaces with LensFun.

yes , I just hit the same bug in Fedora 24 , my workaround is build
ufraw without LensFun
