Bug#879012: apt: Please document a=now in apt_preferences(5)

John Goerzen-3
Package: apt
Version: 1.4.7
Severity: minor

Hi,

From examining the source, the output of apt-cache policy, and various
online sources, it looks like a=now is able to match currently-installed
packages.  This seems to have been the case for some time now.  If this
is a stable feature indeed, can we document it in apt_preferences(5)?
AFAICT it's not documented anywhere.

Thanks,

John

Bug#879012: I guess "release a=now" superseded 'origin ""'?

Ralph, Kenyon [US] (MS)
Indeed, "release a=now" seems to have superseded 'origin ""' for matching locally-installed packages. Using origin with an empty string is shown twice in apt_preferences(5), but it appears to not work anymore, whereas "release a=now" does work.
