Could you elaborate on that? The server and folder are correct, so
it should work.

What error message are you seeing?

That's not the error message. That's the first screenshot again.

Please use one of the newer images.

Hello Adrian,

sorry this was the error message:
https://imgur.com/xZWbPT8

Then I tried this image:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/grub-test/debian-10.0-powerpc-grub-new-NETINST-1.iso

No problem with the mirror address, but at the end I got this message:
https://imgur.com/5Y1Hh1m

This is the log:
https://imgur.com/p6rvWWn

Installation language was english

You should check what's in the syslog to understand what the actual problem
is. But I'm quite confident that the problem is that the release key that is
on the 9.0 installation image has expired.

Which is a pretty good indicator that my above suspicion is correct.

You should use this image:

The newer images (both powerpc and ppc64) have a bug on PowerPC Macs in the
grub installation mechanism which we are still working to resolve. It
unfortunately takes a bit longer as the fix isn't trivial.

I tried that image.  Here’s the MD5 just to be certain.

All went well til it tried to connect to the mirror.  I tried several mirror locations and all resulted in errors because the public key “DA1B2CEA81DCBC61” could not be verified.

Any suggestions?  Thanks!
Rick

Try one of the newer snapshot images or skip the mirror step. You can add
the mirror later once the system is installed and running.

Yes, and I haven't had the time yet to fix this.

If anyone wants to fix grub-ofpathname before I do, I'm happy to help
with getting the fix included in Debian and upstreamed.

Just use the last 10.0 image which was not a snapshot and skip the mirror
step. You can add a mirror via the sources.list later. No need to use
a mirror during installation.

I’m sorry for being so dumb, but…  What’s the difference between a snapshot and a non-snapshot?
Can you give me a specific URL to try?

Thanks!

Rick

PS: If I can get a working OS on my PowerMac G5 I’ll be happy to give a shot at grub-ofpathname.
As long as you don’t mind answering a bunch of dumb questions like:  Where’s the source?  And Is there any documentation for how it’s supposed to work?

The snapshot images contain a lot of breaking changes, in particular the switch
to GRUB. I don't consider them production-ready yet.

Just use the old Yaboot image, but skip the mirror step:

It should print the same OpenFirmware paths as Yaboot.
