Invisible mixer_applet2?

Gabor Gombas
Hi,

For some time now mixer_applet2 does not show on my panel. It is running
according to 'ps', and a 2-pixel wide shadow appears if I select it from
the keyboard using <TAB>. If I right-click on the shadow I can access
the applet's menu, but the volume slide bar simply does not show at all.
I'm using mostly Gnome 2.12 from experimental. The same problem exists
on both i386 and amd64. Any ideas?

Gabor

What icon theme do you use? Does it happen with some other theme?

The mixer applet can't access your mixer ? Maybe a problem with alsa or
something ?

I am experiencing the same problem on my x86 laptop. The mixer works
correctly... it is just that the icon is not visible.

Same question: which icon theme are you using?

Which version of gnome-themes-extras? The bug is supposed to be fixed
since version 0.8.1-2.

Re: Invisible mixer_applet2?

Well, I did not have gnome-themes-extras installed....

It appears as if gnome-themes-extras is a "suggested" package for
gnome and gnome-themes, and I did not install it. Maybe it needs to be
upgraded to "reccomends" or maybe even "depends"?

After installing gnome-themes-extras, the icon has appeared.

Thanks,

Nathan

You probably had installed Gorilla locally, instead of using the Debian
package. In which case you can only blame yourself.

If I right-click on the shadow where the applet should be and select the
applet preferences, it correctly identifies both the ALSA and the OSS
compatibility mixer (it shows the correct HW type) on both machines I
have this bug, so I think it can access the mixer. Also, all alsa
applications (gnome-alsamixer, gkrellm's volume plugin, mplayer with '-ao
alsa' and amarok) work fine.

That did the trick. I was using Clearlooks. When I opened the theme
selector, "Custom Theme" was selected (well, it was always "Custom
Theme" selected when launching the theme selector before as far as I
remember, no matter what theme I did actually use). Upon selecting
Clearlooks again, the mixer applet appeared on the panel. And now the
theme selector seems to remember the correct theme as well. And two
icons that were broken ever since I upgraded to gnome-2.12 also appeared
correctly in the menu.

Thanks for the hint :-)

Btw. unison now shows the following difference in the gconf database
(diff: -broken, +fixed):
