And not required ATM:

martin@merkaba:~> rmadison smartmontools | cut -c1-70
 smartmontools | 5.36-8                   | etch            | source,
 smartmontools | 5.38-2~bpo40+1           | backports/etch  | source,
 smartmontools | 5.38-2+lenny1            | lenny           | source,
 smartmontools | 5.39.1+svn3060-1~bpo50+1 | backports/lenny | source,
 smartmontools | 5.39.1+svn3124-2         | squeeze         | source,
 smartmontools | 5.41+svn3365-1           | wheezy          | source,
 smartmontools | 5.41+svn3365-1           | sid             | source,

Last backport was for Lenny, but there appears to be someone doing
backports for this package.

Ciao,

According to [1] they where done by Matt Taggart.  Maybe he missed the
discussion?

Matt, are you interested in maintaining smartmontools backports for
sqzeeze, too?

Best regards,

I saw it, but I haven't had a chance to reply.

Yes, I will.

BTW upstream recently split the drive data out to a file and has an
update-smart-drivedb script that lets you update the local copy of the
drive database (similar to update-pciids/update-usbids).

But that didn't get enabled until 5.40+svn3296-1 so we still need the
backport for squeeze (but also it's nice to have the version of the drivedb
shipped in the package up to date too).
